All I want for Christmas

Many of the people we asked wanted things much bigger than presents.  They were hoping for World Peace, a good community and acts of kindness.

Women seemed to take a long time to decide what they wanted, perhaps because they want more.  Teenagers wanted money and computer related things.  Men seemed to know what they wanted - things that made them more manly - and could easily decide on their ideal gifts.

Doris' Time at Shoreham College

Mr Harrison is finally retiring after 37 years of being at Shoreham.

The news was spread a few days ago in an email to the parents, stating the devastating news that our best loved, 'Doris' screaming, bear impersonating, Biology teacher, Deputy Head AND CCF Major is leaving the college at the end of the academic year.

He will be sorely missed and whoever replaces him will have a lot to beat to even get near to the standard Mr Harrison has set. We all wish Mr Harrison a happy, child-free retirement with no brats to wind him up.

Christmas Fayre Goes with Joy

It’s been and gone and raised lots of money! The Christmas fayre this year was a huge success with all the stalls getting lots of willing customers.

There were the House stalls (Grenville-Chocolate   Raleigh-Prize giveaways  Nelson-Everything  Rodney-Mulled wine), The Chocolate, Bottle and Bag tombola, and many more stalls selling amazing gifts.
There were also all the lovely Parents association helping with the catering and Santa’s grotto (with a surprise visit from Santa) and all the fun and games making it really enjoyable and fun (even if you didn’t win anything).
Not Only were there just stalls but there were many extras, this year still had the famous games stalls and a camper-van conversion was in the quad being climbed in.
Many people have told me they had a great time and you could tell the cheer was there!!!!!!

The Christmas Memories, the Christmas Buzz and the Christmas Yet to Come

Christmas in the past at the College has been a success and this year, there is more festivity in the air as the decorations have been put up before the start of December! Teachers and pupils are looking forward for the various events coming up. These events include the carol service, the Year 11 Christmas party, the Early Years Christmas play, the Christmas lunch and the Christmas disco.

Here is a picture of
the Early Years' Nativity:

Year 8 are looking forward to next week's music lesson as Mr Manson said that we will be singing Christmas carols! "We wish you a merry Christmas !" http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/7-5Weqbx3U0/mqdefault.jpg

Not So Silent Night

Shoreham College is shining with Christmas decorations from the senior school to the junior school with a Nativity Scene to a dazzling Christmas Tree.

Even the teachers are in the Christmas Spirit.

Walking in a Sweater Wonder Land

School Sweater Day

The school took part in a festive fun day on Friday, allowing all pupils who brought a bottle of booze or a sack of sweets to take part in a dress down day and a 'Best Christmas Sweater' competition. There were some great entries, a few even consisting of wonderful winter onesies! One Year 8 even came in with a Christmas tree onesie and Santa suit underneath!!

Over in the staff room, that festive feeling doesn't stop! Even Miss Heard was sporting a Santa hat and jumper! Now Mr Harrison, where was your jumper?!

Merry Christmas

It's Christmas at Shoreham College.

As you can see the pupils and the teachers are getting in the Christmas spirit. All of them are excited and filled with Christmas joy.  Even the Senior Management Team were getting into the swing of things today.  Students are feeling excited and in spite of tiredness we are all looking forward to the coming holidays. Jingle Bells.

Christmas Spirit

The School is finally getting into the Christmas Spirit this week just in time for the Christmas Fayre. The usual spirit of Christmas has arrived with Trees popping up in the Front Office, The Lewis hall and even in the Junior School (accompanied by the lovely nativity scene).

The most iconic Christmas thing so far though is the banner out front of the school showing the school is really getting ready for the Fayre which is set to be the best one yet this year with Chocolate, Mince Pies, Hot Food and most importantly, all the fun and games.

And the Mood of Christmas is really spreading as Teachers, pupil's and Mr Harrison's alike came in mufti today in trade for an item for the bottle tombola for the Christmas fayre and some people taking an extra step to the Christmas cheer by wearing some extravagant and slightly odd jumpers. Some of these included Reindeer, Snowmen and one person even wore Christmas lights truly showing the Christmas cheer and spirit.

Cake Break

The Philippines Typhoon
The Philippines Typhoon (also known as Typhoon Haiyan) struck the Philippines on the 7th of November causing some of the most catastrophic damage from the strongest recorded winds of 2013 at a total high of 195 mph. It has had a total death toll of 3261 people and many more people are missing. The Aid they are requesting for is basic but essential. Food is low and believe it or not, many people are dying from lack of water despite the flooding due to it being contaminated or simply undrinkable because of mud!

Many aiding officials have said the situation is unfortunately bleak and will be a hard, long and weary job to get the Philippines back to its former state! But there is a good side as some families are starting to be reunited and the damage is starting to be repaired bit by bit.

Raising Awareness
On 21st November, 6 girls from Year 8: Emily, Freya, Georgina, Indi, Lydia and Maia, took on the challenge of presenting an assembly on the Philippine typhoon. Thousands of people have been killed and the girls illustrated this excellently. They each took it in turns to say a little bit about what caused the typhoon and how it affected the locals.

Cakes for the Victims
We wanted to raise money for this important cause so Shoreham College held a cake sale on Friday 22nd November 2013 for the victims of the Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

During an extended break (thank you Mr Harrison), the one place you wanted to be was the Lewis Hall. Georgina , Indi , Maia , Lydia , Freya and Emily came up with the idea of a cake sale, after hearing about the typhoon Haiyam. The girls gave up their break times to organise the cakes which were then sold for 50p each. Within minutes their collection pots were filled with the crashing sound of coins as they were poured in on top.

There were hundreds of cakes, enough for the whole school, with plenty still left over!

My Delicious Cake
"There were many different cakes at The Cake Sale on Friday 22nd November at 10:35am.

There were Cupcakes, Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookies, Victoria Sponge, Chocolatey Chocolate Muffins, coffee cake and so much more.

I had a chocolate Swirly Cupcake with a chocolate button on top. Very tasty, very chocolatey. Delicious" (Cake taster - Max Leinfellner).

Money Raised

The Shoreham college cake sale was a great success, we raised a whopping £858.95! (with help from donations of up to £250).

The six girls who organised and baked many of the cakes were awarded lunch passes for their  contribution to charity to help the people in the Phillipines, this money will go to buy them food and drink and provide them with shelter.

You have found the Shoreham College Journalism Club blog.  We will be writing a weekly blog about events that have happened in our school, from our perspective.  This is our school news as we see it.
